I’ve made it to Reno. Yesterday was quite a day. Three flights, two 3+ hour layovers, 13 hours of travel time.
The North American Bridge Championships (NABC) are so much fun. Somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 people, all of whom feel the same way as I do about the game. Not once this week will I have to explain why I traveled all the way across the country just to play a card game for a week that doesn’t have a cash prize at the end of it, i.e. I’m normal in this setting.
My friend Brenda has put together a team for the Vanderbilt (the premier event at the Spring Nationals) that includes former women’s world champion Margie Gwozdzinsky. We’re seeded #62 out of 88. Today will be a bit of a odd day as they will do some half matches to reduce the field to exactly 64, so that we can have the full knockout’s starting Tuesday. I’m sitting out the first quarter today. Here’s hoping we win our first (half) match, so that we have the evening off tonight.
More to come later this week. Until then, here are some pictures of the travel yesterday.
